Juneteenth Self Expression Scholarship Deadline Approaching
Submissions for the annual City of Oak Park Juneteenth Student Expression Scholarship Contest are now being accepted! This year, the City of Oak Park Juneteenth Sub-Committee will be awarding seven $500 scholarships to students who highlight what Juneteenth means to them and what they have learned about Juneteenth.
Students can express what Juneteenth means to them the following ways:
1. Write a poem using freestyle poetry pattern with at least 10 lines.
2. Create a piece of artwork (poster art, painting, sculpture or sketch).
3. Create an audio/music recording that is 3 minutes or less.
4. Write an essay of no more than 500 words and double spaced.
This contest is open to all students who either live in Oak Park or attend Oak Park schools. Students can submit their Juneteenth expressions at bit.ly/JuneteenthContest24 or bring it to Oak Park City Hall. For those submitting a self-expression piece in person a contact information sheet, with parent or guardian sign off must be completed in order to make the submission valid; that form can be found here. Such sign off is part of the online submission form.
The deadline to apply is April 22, so don't delay!
Winners of the contest will be honored at the Oak Park Juneteenth Celebration on Wednesday, June 19.

2024-2025 Tree Request Form
The City of Oak Park Department of Public Works is a proud recipient of the Tree City designation again this year. This is our 41st year receiving this award and our 21st year as a Growth Award recipient. In Oak Park, we take pride in our mature tree lined streets and strive to continue to plant trees throughout the community. If you would like to request a tree planted in front of your property (in the city right-of-way, the area between the sidewalk and the street), please complete the Tree Request form by scanning the QR code or click the code to get to the form directly.
Once we begin the process of selecting tree locations for each planting season, city staff will inspection each property to ensure that the area is large enough and can support the growth of a tree.
We cannot tell you when the tree will be planted, but can assure you that we will keep your request on file for future consideration. If you have any questions, please reach out to our staff at the Department of Public Works. We can be reached at 248-691-7497.
