SUMMARY OF FUNCTION

Provides security for the Library. Provides basic assistance to patrons in the Computer Lab.

 

 

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • Maintains order in library by controlling noise level and activities according to the Library's Rules of Conduct.

  • Makes at least one pass through entire public area of building every 15 minutes.

  • Provides disciplinary action to patrons as needed in a respectful manner.

  • Communicates with parents, police, or patrons regarding unacceptable behavior in library.

  • Monitors activities in the library parking lot and near entrance doors.

  • Assists patrons in the computer lab with problems signing on, printing, accessing email, and other basic computer lab tasks involving Microsoft Office programs.

  • Assists in other library duties as needed.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to work effectively with other employees.

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office programs and basic computer concepts.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with library patrons and staff.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Graduate of an accredited high school. 

     

    NOT REQUIRED BUT DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Security experience preferred.

 

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to bend and lift books and other materials, push/pull carts and stand or sit for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. The Library Monitor works ONLY on Oak Park High School days [does not work during Summer Vacation; March Break, on Federal Holidays, or on any other scheduled day off according to the Oak Park High School calendar posted on their website].

 

SALARY RANGE - This is a part-time non-union position with an hourly rate of $10.00.
