Union Joints to Open in Oak Park

>
The City is delighted about the amazing news of a destination restaurant coming to the former WWJ Radio Station on Eight Mile Boulevard. The building, closed since 1995, was designed by Albert Kahn, the famous industrial architect who designed the Fisher Building, Ford Motor Company's Highland Park Plant and the Ford River Rouge Complex.  Curt Catallo and wife Ann Stevenson, the company's designer, are the co-owners of Union Joints, a collection of restaurants that specialize in giving new life to unique historic buildings. Union Joints comprise of other destination restaurants in buildings like Vinsetta Garage on Woodward in Berkley, Fenton Fire Hall in Fenton, and the Clarkston Union in Clarkston, Mich. Curt and his team have been interested in the building for years but never acted on it primarily because their restaurants serve alcoholic beverages and Oak Park was a dry community. With the help of the Oak Park voters who approved restaurants serving mixed drinks and City Council approving outdoor dining, this one-of-a-kind building will become a dining destination.
