The seven-member Zoning Board of Appeals hears and decides appeals of administrative interpretation of the Zoning Ordinance and requests for variances from the strict application of the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance. A home-based business is an occupation, activity, or hobby that is traditionally or customarily carried on within the walls of a dwelling unit, such as sewing, millinery, and similar domestic crafts, instruction in a craft or fine art, offices or self-employed professionals, sales representatives and the like, and educational tutoring (e.g. music lessons and tutoring of students) provided that such traditional or customary home occupations meet all criteria to be a permitted use. The Public Hearing will consider:
Case #20-02: Kyle McKechnie, 8625 Capital, has made an appeal to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a variance from the provisions in the Zoning Ordinance, Article XVII, to allow for an existing building that does not meet the parking requirements of the Zoning Ordinance.
Variance applications can be reviewed at Municipal Services, 14300 Oak Park Blvd., during regular business hours. The public may appear at the Public Hearing online or by counsel. Written comments may be sent to the City of Oak Park Zoning Board of Appeals, 14300 Oak Park Blvd., Oak Park, MI 48237, and must be received prior to the Public Hearing.
