Welcome to Oak Park

Residents

We are pleased to welcome you to the City of Oak Park.  We’re so glad you’ve chosen to make Oak Park your new home.  In the City of Oak Park, we strive to provide the highest quality of life for our residents in everything we do. We pride ourselves on the richness of our cultural diversity and our safe and secure neighborhoods. We actively encourage residential and business growth. We are business-minded and family-centered.

The City of Oak Park is home to various government departments that offer residents a variety of services and activities. For example, not only does our Recreation Department offer senior, adult, and youth activities, as well as sports leagues, aquatic programs, and helpful classes, they hold the annual Independence Day Parade, Winterfest and Daddy Daughter Dance. The Oak Park Library is always seeking new ways to expand the community's access to knowledge and learning through Library services, computer classes, activities, concerts and guest speakers. Our Public Works Department, responsible for trash collection, snow removal, and street repairs, also holds the annual Flower Sale, Haul Your Own Junk Away Days, and the Beautification Awards Ceremonies. Even our Community and Economic Development Department who is charged with enticing businesses to invest in the City, holds the annual two-day Summerfest.

In addition to activities, there are many ways in which our residents can connect, collaborate and engage within the community at a level of their comfort.  For ideas on how to become informed, stay connected, get involved, gain assistance, and join in, visit our Community Engagement pages. To get started, consider signing up for community eBlasts, following us on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribing to YouTube and LinkedIn to receive the most current and up-to-date information. And, if you aren't connected to mobile devices or able to use internet, no worries. We mail a bi-monthly newsletter to every house and business in Oak Park with news and activities. We also post fliers of upcoming events in the lobby areas of City Hall, the Public Safety Department, Oak Park Library and Oak Park Recreation. Our marquees, both located on Coolidge post upcoming City news and announcements for traffic traveling within the City. And, residents can always tune into our Comcast Cable channels for emergency alerts, current programming and promotional announcements.

Moving can be a difficult and overwhelming experience. Let our New Resident Welcome Packet, which includes the Resident Handbook (PDF) assist you and your family to learn more about the City of Oak Park and the services we have available. To obtain your New Resident Packet, please feel free to visit the Assessor's Office at City Hall, located at 14000 Oak Park Blvd, Oak Park, MI 48237.
