Our mission is to improve the quality of life in Oak Park by working together with our citizens to protect life and property, promote safety, maintain public order and preserve human rights.
Your public safety officers are cross trained as police officers, firefighters and first-response emergency-medical providers.
The Department of Public Safety is next to City Hall at 13800 Oak Park Blvd.
The Administration, Investigations, Fire Inspection, Records and Property offices are open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Important Public Safety millage vote information
During the upcoming Tuesday, Aug. 4 primary ballot, Oak Park voters will consider the Public Safety Millage Renewal.
It is important to highlight that this is not a tax increase. A "yes" vote simply renews the existing funding structure already in place, ensuring your tax rate does not go up.
The purpose of this renewal is to keep our current public safety staffing and services fully on par.
Dedicated funding from this millage directly sustains the day-to-day operations of our police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS), preventing any interruptions to the community protection and rapid emergency response times our residents rely on.

Police
The Police Division includes the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, Records Bureau, Dispatch, Community Relations and Crossing Guard Program.

On Oct. 1, 2025, the entry-level wage rate was set at $83,255 annually, progressing to a maximum of $100,413 after two years of service, inclusive of all bonuses and incentive pay.
These rates do not reflect the additional 5 percent contractual increases scheduled over the next two fiscal years. As of July 1, 2027, the position will top out at $105,496 annually.

Speed Reduction Campaign
Is your street experiencing high-speed drivers?

Complete our online speed trailer request form to have the trailer parked in your neighborhood.
Keep in mind the following:
Due to high demand there may be a delay in placement at the requested location.
Trailers are placed on a first-request basis. We will do our best to fulfill requests as quickly as possible.
Radar trailers are intended for residential streets, not primary roads and trunk lines
Radar trailers are stored during winter months to prevent damage and keep roads clear for snowplows
Radar trailers may not be placed at the exact location of a request. A safe location is critical.
Impounded Vehicles
Vehicles impounded by the Oak Park Department of Public Safety are usually taken to Monaghan's Towing Company, at 21680 Fern St. in Oak Park.
An owners of an impounded vehicle must obtain authorization for its release from the Oak Park Department of Public Safety BEFORE contacting the towing company.
The Department of Public Safety is next to City Hall at 13800 Oak Park Blvd.
The vehicle will only be released after showing proof of vehicle ownership and payment of required fees.
