The Oak Park Department of Public Safety has identified the deceased driver involved in the Sept. 17 fatal traffic crash at Eight Mile Road and Coolidge Highway as Dwayne Antonio Harvey, 59, of Detroit. Harvey was a teacher at Oak Park High School and was working evenings as an Uber driver at the time of the crash.

"This crash is a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from impaired driving," said Steve Cooper, director of the Oak Park Department of Public Safety. "The choices we make behind the wheel matter. We urge everyone to plan ahead, never drive impaired, and speak up when someone is about to make a dangerous decision. A single choice can change lives forever."

"Dwayne Harvey dedicated his life to helping young people learn, grow and succeed, and his loss is being felt throughout our community," said City Manager Erik Tungate. "Through his work as an educator, mentor and role model, he touched countless lives. On behalf of the City of Oak Park, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, students, fellow educators and all those who had the privilege of knowing him."

Previously released information regarding the criminal charges against the driver remains unchanged. The defendant, Tracy Darwin Sutton of Detroit, was arraigned Sept. 20, 2026, on charges of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death and Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury.
