Oak Park Public Library offers basic technology assistance by appointment in individualized 30 minute sessions to help you accomplish learning basic technology functions. To request an appointment call 248-691-7480, option 3. Once your information is collected, a staff person will call you back to set up an appointment.
We offer assistance with the following topics:
-Email: setting up or using email.
-Simple word processing or learning how to use Word or Google Docs.
-Assistance filling out forms when fine motor skills or other physical limitation creates a barrier to completing an online task.
-Smart phone, tablet assistance with text messaging, simple app usage, and basic phone navigation.
-Basic internet or computer navigation (such as saving files, etc.).
-Libby or Hoopla assistance or set-up.
-Resume / cover letter review.
-Using the library office equipment (photocopier, scanner, fax).
-Small and simple data transfers (cloud storage, thumb drives) that take a few minutes.
-Recommendations for online tutorials related to the topic you are seeking help with.
Appointment guidelines:
- Appointments last approximately 30 minutes.
- We offer one appointment per month.
- Only one appointment can be made at a time.
The following services are not offered as part of our tech appointments or walk-up reference assistance:
- Creation of documents or extensive formatting of a document.
- Editing or proofreading of more than a few pages
- Editing or proofreading of documents that will take a period of time that negatively impacts our ability to help other patrons.
- Transcription services.
- In-depth assistance with specific software.
- Completion of work or school tasks.
- Major troubleshooting of technology (including phone or computer repair).
- Tasks that require long periods of time (such as downloading large amounts of data).
- Any task that qualifies as legal advice.
The Oak Park Public Library reserves the right to cancel or limit appointments at any time for any reason. A reasonable effort will be made to communicate any changes to those with established appointments.
