Transportation Services

A white passenger bus is parked outside a recreation center building.The City of Oak Park Recreation Department offers transportation for medical appointments, errands and rides to and from the Oak Park Community Center.

Oak Park residents 50 years or older, or persons with disabilities (must provide appropriate documentation) are eligible.

You must be a member of our 50 and Up Club prior to scheduling your ride (Membership is $6 for one year).

Medical appointments

  • Round trip: $4
  • One-way: $3

Personal errands:

  • Round trip (one stop): $4
  • Each additional stop: $1

Community Center:

  • Round trip (one-stop): $2

All transportation fees must be paid to the driver in exact cash or check on the day of service. Checks can be made payable to the City of Oak Park. Drivers do not carry change.


Transportation Procedures

  1. Call at least 48 hours and up to three months in advance to book your ride. Every effort will be made to accommodate you. Please note: some days fill up.
  2. We are able to begin scheduled pickups at 8:30 a.m. with return times no later than 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  3. Drivers provide a curb-to-curb service and cannot assist patrons entering or exiting the bus.
  4. Please be ready and at the door about 15 minutes before our driver is scheduled to pick you up. Please be patient if they arrive up to 15 minutes late. Drivers do not call. 
  5. Once a driver picks you up, please do not ask that driver to change the itinerary that has already been planned with the Recreation Office.
  6. Drivers cannot enter private residences. If you are going shopping, please do not purchase more that you can carry. 
  7. Please let the Recreation Office know if you require a wheelchair and/or a walker for entering and exiting the bus. Should you need extra assistance, you may need to provide an escort for yourself.
  8. Drivers are only allowed to assist wheelchairs up and down the wheelchair lift. Drivers cannot help patrons up and down ramps, lift, carry or push them up or down steps or over door sills. If additional assistance is needed, the rider must have a companion ride with them.
  9. Pay the driver at the time of service. Checks must be made out to the City of Oak Park. 
  10. If you cannot make your scheduled appointment, you must call the Recreation Office to cancel.

Please note: If Oak Park Schools are closed due to inclement weather, our buses do not run. Please stay tuned to local media during the winter months. Buses also do not run on holidays when the Community Center is closed.
