Abandoned Homes/Vacant Properties
Vacant or unoccupied buildings or structures are required to be registered with the city. If you suspect a home has become abandoned or is vacant and could be a danger to the neighborhood or may be inviting crime, call the Code Enforcement Division at (248) 691-7450 or use the city’s Citizens Action Center.
Abandoned Vehicles
Contact the Code Enforcement Division to report abandoned vehicles on occupied property. Code Enforcement can be reached at (248) 691-7450.
Contact the Department of Public Safety if an abandoned vehicle is on a public street or vacant property. The Department of Public Safety can be reached at (248) 691-7520 or use the city’s Citizens Action Center.
Accident Reports
Accidents on a roadway involving injury or damages of $400 or more: State law requires these incidents be reported to a police agency. These can be made by calling the Oak Park Department of Public Safety non-emergency line at (248) 691-7520 or in person at 13800 Oak Park Blvd.Non-injury accident on private property: File a private property accident report in person at the Oak Park Public Safety Department as soon as possible. This can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Bring the vehicle involved, your driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance along with any other information from the other driver(s) involved.
Animals
Contact Animal Control immediately if you see a loose dog or cat or one that may be in danger.
Do not try to capture the animal because it may be vicious or ill.
Contact animal control if an animal is causing a nuisance by habitually barking or meowing.

Blight/Property Maintenance
Contact the Code Enforcement Division to report blight/property maintenance (i.e. broken windows, accumulation of junk or debris, overgrown lawns/weeds and homes or accessory structures open to rodents or in need of repair).

Commercial Vehicles in Residential Areas
One commercial vehicle, with a maximum height of 9 feet and length of 23 feet, can be parked on a single-family dwelling-unit lot.
The commercial vehicle must be inside a garage or on a driveway behind the front building line.
A commercial vehicle that is a pickup truck, panel van or sedan can be parked on a driveway forward of the building line.
Commercial vehicles not allowed include wreckers, garbage trucks, septic tank haulers/pumpers or vehicles with platform, tank, overhead rack, stake or dump bodies.

Graffiti
Property owners must not allow graffiti to remain on a property for more than five days after a notice has been received from the city.

Potholes
State roads are managed by the Michigan Department of Transportation
County roads are managed by Oakland County Road Commission
Oak Park's roads are managed by the Oak Park Public Works Department.

Power Outages
Oak Park does not provide electrical power. All power-related issues, including outages and downed wires should be reported to Detroit Edison at (313) 477-4747.
Rental Properties
Landlords must obtain an annual Landlord License and register their properties with the city. If you believe a landlord has not obtained the proper licensure or registration, call the Code Enforcement Division at (248) 691-7450 or use the city’s Citizens Action Center.
Snow Removal
It is considered a public nuisance to allow snow and ice to accumulate on sidewalks.
Snow and ice must be removed within 12 hours of when it stops snowing during the daytime.
Snow and ice must be removed by 6 p.m. the following day when it stops snowing at night. Failure to remove snow and ice during those time frames can result in a citation or nuisance removal at the homeowner’s expense.

Water Main Break
To report a water main break or other Department of Public Works emergency concern after hours or on weekends, call the Department of Public Safety's non-emergency line at (248) 691-7520, ext. 9.
For non-emergency needs after hours, leave a message at (248) 691-7497 and a Department of Public Works employee will return your call during business hours or use the city’s Citizens Action Center.
