Warming/Cooling Center
The exterior of the building that houses the Recreation Department in Oak Park, Michigan.The City of Oak Park provides residents with temporary shelter to prevent injuries related to exposure to the elements.

The Warming/Cooling Center, at 14300 Oak Park Blvd., is operational when the following conditions exist:

The forecast calls for low temperatures, or a combination of precipitation, wind chill and temperatures that "feel like" 10 degrees Fahrenheit or below.
The forecast calls for high temperatures, or when the heat index is at 95 degrees Fahrenheit or above.

When those conditions are present, the Center operates from Mondays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Hours on Saturday and Sunday vary.

Center Guidelines

Individuals using the Warming/Cooling Center must comply with all Community Center rules and polices and adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Please bring your own reading material and any other personal items you require. Amplified sound devices are prohibited.
  • Please supply your own water and snacks.
  • Vending machines are available on site.

Please note, that there are no medical services provided at the Center.
