The City of Oak Park Assessing Department establishes and maintains property assessments for real and personal property within the city. It ensures assessments are prepared fairly, consistently and in accordance with Michigan
law.

The Assessing Department identifies, reviews and classifies taxable property, including residential, commercial and industrial parcels. Staff analyzes market data, reviews sales activity and evaluates new construction, additions, demolitions and other property changes to determine market value for tax purposes. The office also maintains property records, prepares special assessment rolls, administers the Board of Review process and maintains ownership information for real and personal property within Oak Park.

Each year, property is assessed based on its condition as of Tax Day, Dec. 31.

Through ongoing review and analysis, the Assessing Department supports a fair and equitable property tax system while meeting the requirements established by the State of Michigan.
