Jury Duty

The word "juror" and a barcode on a piece of paper.

Serving as a juror is an essential civic responsibility.

You will receive a summons to appear with instructions to call the jury clerk after noon on the Thursday before your service date. Jurors report to 13600 Oak Park Blvd. by 8:30 a.m. on the day required.

The court tries to conclude jury trials in one day, but trials can carry over to multiple days.

At the end of each day, jurors will be informed if they need to report on additional days.

 Requests to be excused or postponed

All requests to be excused from jury duty must be in writing and submitted to the judge’s secretary at least five days prior to the appearance date. 

Any request to be excused for medical reasons must be accompanied by a doctor’s letter. Requests must be in writing and mailed to:

 Juror pay

  • $15 half day / $30 full day (Day 1)
  • $22.50 half day / $45 full day (after Day 1)

Juror responsibilities

  • Call to confirm attendance
  • Arrive on time
  • Dress appropriately
  • Arrange childcare and transportation
  • Leave electronics at home or in your vehicle

Failure to appear may result in contempt of court.
