Probation and Specialized Courts

Probation

Probation allows eligible defendants to remain in the community while supervised.

Requirements include:

  • Following the probation order
  • Attending appointments and court dates
  • Reporting address or employment changes
  • Avoiding criminal activity

Maximum probation term: Two years


Specialized Courts

Veterans Treatment Court

Created in 2013 by Judge Friedman Appel, this program supports veterans charged with misdemeanors by connecting them with case management, mentoring and services through the Veterans Administration.

Behavioral Health and Wellness Court

This program serves adults with mental illness, developmental disabilities or co‑occurring disorders to reduce recidivism, improve wellness and lessen the strain on the justice system.
